Landscape

A boat on a wide river; red-roofed white houses row running down along the river; some human figures on the road...The whole environment as if has grown torpid and nothing can disturb the harmonious being of the world. Calmness and patience – that is the credo of Popiashvili’s creation. ”Landscape is distinguished in the aspect of colorful solvation. Here the author turns up to be a courageous colorist due to the free nature of landscape genre. The quality of varietical -pictorial structure points to the high mastership of the artist.

Still-life

Dato Popiashvili belongs to the artist’s trend, whose creations artistically realize the ancient traditions of Medieval Georgian Art. Illustrations for the book “Stories about Jesus Christ” thanks for blessings of His Holiness and Beatitude Catholikos – Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II is one more proof in the aspect of maintaining of the mentioned traditions, where knowledge of the subject and high professionalism doesn’t fail to be noticed. In “Still Life” The Gospel implication is quite distinct. Laconic composition with tinctured eggs in the basin, simplified form as well as the rhythmical distribution of colorful spots confers on the calmness of the composition and its significance. The background is completely covered with ancient Georgian inscriptions, being very nicely set into the composition net. The “motion” of the red spots together with decorativeness obviously carries on the sacred function associating with the theme of Christ’s Easter.
