Rodeo
An equestrian figure is much praised by sculptors. It enables an artist to completely demonstrate his temper. The motive involves a group composition, a portrait…. The artist faces an arduous task – achieving organic integrity between figures, presenting motion dynamism according to the given task or outlining the inner static of the composition. Levan Vardosanidze’s “Rodeo” proves to be one of his most expressive works. Each component of the composition intends to convey a general feeling. The plastic expression of this small-sized work is achieved through dynamic composition solution and intensive artistic images. The artist shows the climax of the action – an up-jumping untamed horse and the figure of a man clinging to its mane are blended and appear to be one whole. The impression of tension and expression is intensified by the compatibility of the pedestal and figure sizes. The volumes of flexed muscles as a result of the horse and man’s tense movement are convincingly expressed; the body texture is made tangible. The pictorial – decorative effect is achieved through the bronze material colouring – greenish “patina” doubles the composition picturesqueness and dynamism.

Salt Lake Woman
“Salt Lake Woman” is numbered among the most important works by Levan Vardosanidze. It is dedicated to the Winter Olympic Games held in Salt Lake City, USA in 2002. The delegation of Georgia’s Olympic Committee gifted the work to the organizing committee of Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games. The plastic idea so typical of Levan Vardosanidze assumes diverse interpretation in his works. Among the works created on the bases of sports theme “Salt Lake Woman” stands out for its original thematic solution and dynamic plastic forms. The artist’s conventional-decorative pictorial idiom and artistic vision prove to be extensively tangible. The figure of a woman dancing on the ice rink spins so swiftly that it’s improbable to perceive her face. This sensation is familiar to all of us and the artist succeeds in visualizing this motion. A spiral-like movement of the dancer’s hands and dress makes the figure particularly dynamic. The artist masterfully uses the pedestal which seems to be slightly touched by the figure. The pedestal appears to be not only a base but at that its polished surface creates the impression of an ice rink.

Miss Harley Davidson
Sport, speed, dynamism – the figure of a woman and an American “iron horse” are depicted through basic forms. The woman’s body is strong and flexible, and her posture – convincing. She’s driving a fast car in a valiant manner with a helmet on her head and gloves on her hands. The author has found all the necessary elements to express this artistic image without any excess ones: a sculptural form, motion, rhythm, material, color. Each nuance is rational and an important component of this laconic composition. The artistic image presented by the author is so realistic, characteristic and convincing that the viewer has no questions about the abstract character of the figure and the car. The vanguard movement and rebellious spirit connect this work to the art of the 20-ies of the XX century.

Dansing on the mirror
The plastic works by Levan Vardosanidze focus on unusual synthesis of a realistic form and conventional-decorative solution. In each Nu the artist offers an unexpected version of a feminine nude figure interpretation. As a result his works always prove to be interesting and original. In the sculpture “Dancing on the Mirror” the artist refers to a form abstraction and stylization. The realistic expression of main forms and contours and at that a contrast solution: visualizing the figure headless, a circle of hands raised overhead, which creates association of a mirror as well – gives the sensation of a decorative character. The synthesis of a multicoloured and multi texture material makes the work particularly picturesque. The fluid rhythm of a refined silhouette, oblong proportions and round forms attaches special aesthetics to the figure.

In the Bath
The works by Levan Vardosanidze are notable for their thematic variety. Sports, choreography, music – the plastic fantasies of Vardosanidze impress the viewer with the composition audacity, a persuasive plastic form and refinement of the artistic image. He chooses the sphere of utilitarian-decorative art. His small-sized sculptures are made for interior and create an extraordinary emotional pictorial – decorative ambience. Among the contemporary sculptors Vardosanidze seems to be one of the most innovative. In sculpture he applies combined technique, blends different kinds of metal, metal and stone which involve utterly difficult technological processes and make works picturesque. “In the Bath” the artist mixes marble and bronze materials and creates an extraordinary realistic interpretation effect of the conception. On the one hand, the viewer is attracted by the concrete theme and artistic image, on the other hand, by lyricism and importance which fill this routine scene. The marble bath is full of white foam which brims over. The volumes of the feminine figure and face soaked in the foam are perfectly handled in terms of plastic. The texture of her fit body and the wet sweptback hair seem to be tangible. The special decorative accent is created by the contrasts of the green marble pedestal, white bath and bronze figure along with the diversity of texture handling. Levan Vardosanidze offers a model of a decorative sculpture standing out for its refined artistic image and emotion.

Torso
A different version of a nude figure among the works by Levan Vardosanidze. The torso of a woman made of white marble seems to be an artistic interpretation of antic Venus. This work shows us the synthesis of conventional-decorative forms which is characteristic of realistic and modern arts. Inspite of the stylization and simplification of the sculptural form the artistic image maintains the peculiarity and grace of a woman’s body. The softness of material treatment, the fluid rhythm of contour and body lines create a perfect sculptural form with a tactile texture. The contrast of white and various colored marble of the body and multi-stepped pedestal makes an additional and strong decorative effect.

Look round
In the works by Levan Vardosanidze the artistic image of a woman proves to be of great importance. The artist applies to different interpretations. In most cases it is the image of a liberated, modern and charming woman. She’s bold and defiant, apparently posturing in front of the viewer. A quite different image is offered by the author in the present work. A small-sized sculpture with oblong Gothic proportions and a closed posture proves to be the symbol of feminine charm and tenderness. This artistic image is utterly different. It’s reserved, exists in its own shell. It carefully touches the small-sized marble pedestal, as if covering the nude through waist-long loose hair; the torso leaned a bit forward with the head sharply tossed back. This move points to the work title – look around….
